As our community faces a global pandemic and a national reexamination of inequality and injustice, our community colleges can and must play a critical role in addressing these issues.
This is why I am running for the Rancho Santiago Community College District Board.
I personally benefitted from the affordable and quality education community colleges provide, and I am dedicated to ensuring that future generations have the same opportunities.
I attended Southern West Virginia Community College before transferring to and graduating from West Virginia University. My education prepared me to pursue a career in affordable healthcare management.
My educational experience includes teaching with Jobs Corps, leading a school-to-work program and managing on-site courses for Peirce College.
On the Rancho Santiago Board I will:
David Crockett grew up in Matewan, West Virginia; a small town with no stop lights and a significant place in history. For decades the Hatfield’s and McCoy’s feuded there in the 1800’s and in 1920 striking coal miners stood up for their rights and fought mine owners hired goons in the Battle of Matewan. David has kept the fighting spirit of his hometown with him.
He is one of fourteen children and from early on he has been a hard worker who began paying taxes at the age of 13. While still in high school he began classes at Southern West Virginia Community College.
He graduated from West Virginia University with a BA in English. Since graduating he has been committed to lifelong learning and teaching others. He was a teacher with Job Corp in Harpers Ferry; led a school-to-work program and managed on-site courses for Peirce College.
David has decades of experience as an advisor and manager providing affordable and quality healthcare primarily to Medicare and Medi-Cal recipients. His career took him and his family to Santa Ana over 7 years ago and is passionately committed and active in his adopted hometown.
From the Million Man March to the Woman’s March, from Washington DC to Santa Ana, David is an activist who has took to the streets to protest for justice.
